The Collectorate of Customs (Appraisement) has said that tracking devices should be installed on all cargo vehicles, transporting bonded cargo to the upcountry dry ports.

A public notice, issued by the Collectorate, said that Transshipment (TP) applications received from authorised bonded carriers since July 1, would be processed only if they produced a certificate that the concerned vehicle was equipped with tracking devices.

The notice said the Superintendent, Import Section, would ensure the presence of such certificate and the Examination Officer (Transshipment) would inspect the vehicle and endorse on reverse of the TP that the tracking device was installed in the vehicle. It further said condition had been mandatory to prevent instances of tampering with bonded cargo destined to dry ports.

With the help of the tracking device, the customs authorities would be able to monitor the movement of the customs bonded cargo and would immediately come to know about the waylaying of the bonded vehicle from the designated route.
